In the early 1980's a group of young people in western Norway fell in love with the American gospel music of Andre Crouch, Patrick Henderson, Richard Smallwood, Edwin Hawkins and Bill Gaither. In 1991 the group invited Edwin Hawkins to a workshop founded by Petter Losengard. This was the beginning of the Karmony Gospelfest, which is now a large annual convention. Last year over 900 young people from all across Norway attended.

Inspired by the Karmony Gospelfest, Petter Losengard established a community choir in 1995, which began with 20 young people. This choir became known as the "Voice of Joy". This dedicated group of young people, ages 16-30, are from different churches in the area around the town of Haugesund, on the West Coast of Norway.

With the blessings of the Lord, the Voice of Joy has been established as one of the top gospel choirs in Norway. In addition to many concert performances in Norway, the choir has been featured many times on Norway's national TV station, TV2. In April 2001 the choir traveled to London, England and TV2 followed the choir's journey and made a 30 minute documentary about the trip. In December 2002, the choir did a sold-out Christmas Tour with one of the best known and loved artists in Norway, Hanne Krough. In 2003 the choir began it's first tour of the United States. Little did they know the excitement they would generate. Dennis Worley, Music and Worship Minister at Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville says "Voice of Joy has tremendous talent, musical abilities, and a truely remarkable sound". He and Pastor Mike Glenn are hosting a live CD/DVD recording event for the choir on July 23rd, 2005. Chaplain of the United States Senate, Dr.Barry Black extended an open invitation to the choir anytime they are in the United States and said "their joy and love for the Lord Jesus is evident not only in their songs, but also in their faces and the way they carried themselves". Pastor L.H. Hardwick of Nashville's Christ Church says of the choir, "their revitalizing energy is contagious. What an amazing blessing they were to our congregation". Voice of Joy are truely honored to be the guest choir again at the 2005 Music and Worship Conference at Christ Church in Nashville. They will be arriving in Dallas Texas July 15th for appearances on the Daystar Network at 11am, and at Bethesda Community Church at 10:30am on July 17th before coming to Nashville for the Music and Worship Conference. They will visit several churches in Tennessee before journeying to Atlanta for appearances July 30th at Marietta SDA at 7:30pm, and at Mount Paran Atlanta July 31st at 8 and 11am.
